What Is The Cheapest Kennel/Cattery For My Pets While I'm Away On Holiday?

Going on holiday can be tricky for pet owners. You want to send your animals to a kennel or cattery that takes care of them while you are away, but won't charge more than your holiday.

There are a number of factors that affect the price kennels and catteries charge to look after your animals. These include:

  • Size of cat or dog - larger dogs, especially, require more work, longer walks and more food.
  • Species of animal - pedigree animals have special needs and dietary requirements that make looking after them more expensive.
  • The kind of facility - kennels and catteries offering deluxe pet accommodation will be substantially more expensive than a budget venue (it works in a similar way to hotels for their human counterparts).

Kennels

For a small- to average-sized dog, you can expect to pay between £7 and £12 per dog per day to board at a reputable kennel. Anything over the £12 per day mark starts entering the luxury boarding price range where you can expect top of the range services.

Larger dogs (Saint Bernard, Irish Wolfhound, Great Dane etc) will cost you around £15 per day to board. Anything upward of £20 will be for luxury accommodation.

Catteries

For average-size cats you can expect to pay between £6 and £10 per cat per day. Anything in excess of £10 will be luxury accommodation, offering top of the line services.
