What Is The Best Way To Get To London City Airport From Gatwick?

There are many options to choose from when travelling from Gatwick airport to London City airport.

By Train

Gatwick Express

This line is the most popular train route from Gatwick and is a non-stop high speed service into London Victoria. The trains run in 15 minute intervals and the journey time is between 30-35 minutes. Running between 4.35am and 01.35am, the Gatwick Express is always reliable. Southern

If you are coming from Gatwick's South Terminal, there are staff available to assist at the train ticket desk.

  • The train routes begin at Three Bridges
  • The train trip takes about 35 minutes to central London
  • Single tickets are approximately £9.50 for an adult
  • This service runs at 15 minute intervals, but hourly intervals at night
  • You will need to take the District Light Rail from central London to London City airport.

First Capital Connect

Take the First Capital Connect train to London Bridge Station, switch to the tube and take the Northern Line to Bank. Once you have done that, switch to the DLR and travel to the airport. This will take about 67-72 minutes. This may be one of the most cost-effective options but it is not the most convenient.

By Bus And Coach

The National Express service is the most direct way between the airports, although the journey can be lengthly.

National Express

National Express has a ticket counter in the arrivals area of both terminals at the Gatwick airport. There is another ticket facility in the South Terminal coach station.

  • The trip normally takes between 65-105 minutes and costs around £7.50
  • The first coach leaves at 5.15am and the last coach leaves at 12.33am
  • National Express coaches run at 45-minute intervals during the day and hourly intervals at night

By Mini-Bus And Taxi

A mini-bus or taxi is privately booked in advance. The charge will vary according to who you book with. Traditional black taxis cannot pick you up at the Gatwick airport, as that is out of their London-based location. Private hire vehicles can be hired at the Gatwick airport.
