How Much Cash Am I Allowed To Take Abroad?
How much cash you can take abroad will depend on the rules of the country you are visiting. We, therefore, advise that you check the customs regulations of the country you are heading to.
However, as a rule of thumb, when you enter or leave the EU, there is a cash restriction of €10 000.
Travelling With €10 000 Or More In Cash:
Please note that special regulations apply if you carry:
- €10 000 or more in cash
- The equivalent amount in other currencies
- Assets that can be converted into cash such as cheques
If any of the above situations apply to you, you must declare it to the relevant customs authorities.
Under the European Regulation, customs authorities are entitled to detain any cash that should have been declared but hasn't. They will then follow protocol to ensure that these passengers, their baggage and their means of transport are all above board.
