How Do I Claim On Travel Insurance?

Should you have to make an insurance claim (whether it's for medical emergencies or property damage/loss), it is important that you keep a tight paper trail. This applies to you before, during and after your trip - to ensure your claim can be processed quickly and accurately.

When contacting the claims department, it is vital that you have the following information at hand:

  • Name of your policy and where it was purchased
  • Policy number
  • Resort and country visited
  • Value of claim
  • Brief description of circumstances
  • Travel dates
  • Date your policy was purchased
  • Incident date

Medical Claims

If you were injured or ill during your holiday, it is vital that you keep record of the following details: date and duration of treatment and details of the hospital and doctor's office you were treated at.

In almost every case you will be asked to produce a letter from the physician who treated you, along with any prescriptions, bills and receipts. If you were injured at a resort, bar, cruise vessel, hotel or private facility, you will need to provide an incident report.

Personal Property Claims

In the event that something has been stolen from you, you will need to have a statement from the police, proof of purchase of your goods and an incident report from the hotel/ bar/ resort where your goods were stolen.

Keep Official Documents

If you keep official documents and a tight paper trail, your claim will be processed in due course. Keep this in mind when making a claim.
