How Big Can My Luggage Be For International Flights?
All airlines have slightly different requirements, so please ensure that you are aware of your luggage allowances when you travel internationally to avoid complications at the airport.
Below are the requirements for British Airways specifically:
Luggage Size For Check-In
- Two checked-in bags weighing a maximum of 23 - 32kg per bag
- For regular luggage, the largest bag cannot exceed these dimensions: 35.5ins x 29.5ins x 16ins (including handles)
- For sporting equipment, musical instruments etc, the largest luggage item cannot exceed these dimensions: 75in x 29.5in x 25.5in (you are entitled to check-in these items at no additional cost)
Luggage Size For Carry-On
- One bag and one handbag or laptop bag; both should fit easily into the luggage compartment
- Not exceeding the dimensions of 22in x 18in x 10in for your main hand luggage and 18in x 14in x 8in for your handbag or laptop
- Some airlines only allow one carry-on bag measuring 22 inches x 9 inches x 14 inches, weighing a total of 6kg
Please note: Most airlines differ when it comes to luggage restrictions, so it is important that you check with your airline what its particular regulations are. There is also normally a slight difference in luggage size depending on whether you travel business, first or economy class.
