What Happens If My Travel Company Goes Bust While I'm On Holiday?

In the highly unfortunate event of your travel operator going bust while you are on holiday, here's how to get home without having to pay for a new ticket.

Call the Civil Aviation Authority (00 44 161 444 5811)

The CAA is the UK's aviation regulator. This organisation oversees the air traffic industry, ensuring that fair economic practice is maintained. This is enforced by the Air Traffic Organisers' Licensing scheme. All ATOL affiliated travel companies are protected by the CAA in the event of a financial meltdown: this effectively insures your holiday.

In the event of a travel company going bust, The CAA will have the latest updates on what to do and who to call with regard to:

  • Enjoying the remainder of your holiday if you are already abroad
  • Getting home
  • Claiming money back if you have not departed yet
  • Finding out the latest news regarding the company going bust

Travel Tip

Only book with ATOL affiliated travel companies!
