Do I Need A Visa To Visit The USA?

UK nationals with a valid British passport are eligible to travel to the United States without a visa under the Visa Waiver Programme, as long as they are travelling to the United States for business, pleasure or are in transit and they register online on the new Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA). Also, you will only be permitted to stay in the country for up to 90 days. Visa-free travel does not include those who plan to study, work or remain in the United States for more than 90 days.

Information On The ESTA Requirements

Anyone planning to enter the United States under the Visa Waver Scheme must register online on ESTA at least 72 hours before they fly. The forms are available from the ESTA website.

Additional Information

A passport indicating that the bearer is a British Subject, British Dependent Territories Citizen, British Overseas Citizen, British National (Overseas) Citizen, or British Protected Person does not qualify for travel without a visa. A passport which states the holder has Right of Abode or indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom also doesn't qualify for visa-free travel.
